WE ACCEPT PACE VOUCHERS FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD AND EXTENDED DAY CARE.
Saint Joseph School’s Early learning program is a play based learning center. Children learn and discover about themselves and others through hands-on play. Teachers use the Diocese of Fall River Learning outcomes, EEC, DESE and Creative Curriculum. Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum is a research-based, developmentally appropriate, holistic curriculum that empowers children to think critically, reason and analyze through hands-on exploration.
Religion: Preschool and Pre-K are taught religion by participating in school wide Para-liturgical celebrations, special events and Holy Days of Obligation. In class the children learn Bless Us, O Lord, the snack and lunch prayer, along with Our Father prayer.
Reading/Language Arts: Teachers promote Language and Literacy Skills by utilizing daily resources focused on language and literacy skill development, and read aloud using Teaching Strategies children’s book collection and Digital Children’s Library from a wide range of genres that explore life in other cultures, celebrate diversity, spark curiosity, and inspire children’s imaginations.
Math: Children are introduced to basic concepts like counting and cardinality, recognizing shapes, spatial relationships, measurements and data. Teachers use items in the classroom to help promote mathematical thinking and vocabulary.
Science: Children are provided with hands-on, open-ended activities that encourage them to observe, question and experiment with their surroundings, using their senses to investigate the world around them through play and discovery. Science exploration activities may be water play, nature walks, sensory bins, life cycle activities and magnet play.
Specialist: Children in preschool/pre-K have music, physical education, art class and library with a designated teacher for each specialized subject.
The classrooms are designed to incorporate many different learning areas throughout the classroom. Through play and discovery, the Block area, Dramatic play, Toys and Games, Art, Library, Discovery, Sand and Water and Music and Movement, the children are not only given the opportunity to be involved in the learning, but also in caring for the classroom and what is in it.
